FAQ

Who are the Lords of the Pit?

The Lords of the Pit are the United States’ premiere Old School Magic: the Gathering club based out of Chicago, IL. Members of this group include current club members (“Lords”) as well as prospective new members (“Thrulls”).

Membership in the Lords of the Pit is based on active involvement in our events and contributions to our cause – the proliferation of Old School MTG in the United States, improving the world through the club’s charitable contributions & community service, and fierce representation of our club.

We value equality, inclusivity, tolerance and, of course, slinging old cardboard.

All members of the Lords of the Pit are unified under these values. We unequivocally reject racism and support the causes of equality, tolerence and inclusivity, not only in our club, but throughout the Old School community at large. Lords of the Pit events are a safe space for friends and strangers alike and are a catalyst for charitable giving to numerous Chicago-area organizations* as nominated by our members. In solidarity with the worldwide movement against institutional racism, we pledge upcoming charitable contributions to The Chicago Bond Fund, My Block My Hood My City, the NAACP and the Equal Justice Initiative.

What is Old School?

A subset of a children’s card game adapted for an aging demographic.

Are your events sanctioned?

Never. Ever.

Ok, how do I get started with Old School?

For best results, start with the cards that gave you the most joy from your childhood. Proxies are totally okay. Next, get in contact with a club near you to be invited to the next meet up!

Do I need power to enjoy Old School?

No.

I’m new to Old School; will I be welcome at your next meetup?

Absolutely. Old School is about community, camaraderie, and 25-year-old cardboard. We believe that the more people involved in the Old School scene the better!

What does BTFOOC mean?

Balling the fuck out of control.

Bourbon or beer?

Drink both and slam a Shivan Dragon.
